Toyota GM, Mahindra and Honda will hike prices by Jan 2010 in India
GM India sells models, including hatchback Chevrolet Spark and Aveo UVA, sedans Aveo, Optra, Cruze and SUV Captiva. Toyota Kirloskar Motor also said it will increase the prices of three of its models - Innova, Corolla Altis and Fortuner - by 1.5 to 2 per cent, Mahindra Scorpio, Maruti Swift and Honda Civic may go up by Rs 10,000-20,000 from January 1 next year or so as the raw material prices have gone up by 10-15% and also the Japanese carmakers are concerned by the rise in yen valuation.
Mr. Pawan Goenka head of the automotive division at Mahindra & Mahindra, said “We are facing pressures to increase prices to keep our profit margins in healthy territory,” and Mr. P Balendran, Vice-President of General Motors India (GMI) said that "We will be increasing the prices of our models by 2-3 per cent from January first week to offset rising input costs" and according to the Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) “price hike decision has been taken in view of increasing input costs and unfavourable exchange rate”.
Maruti Suzuki India, still has not taken a final decision on price hike, although the rising input costs are putting pressure on its margins.

Honda small car may come by 2012
Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) plans to launch its small car earlier than 2011-12, to give competition to other small cars scheduled for launch around the same time. Codenamed 2CV, the car is being developed specifically for the Indian market. It is expected to come with a 1.1 litre petrol engine, and will be priced between Rs 4 lakh and Rs 4.5 lakh. The car will be positioned below the Honda Jazz, but is likely to be built on the same platform. It may also share the iV-TEC technology with the Jazz but it will smaller than Jazz. A Honda spokesperson said that the small-car project was on track, and that nothing had changed from the earlier position. The car is expected to roll out from its stalled manufacturing plant in Rajasthan, where Honda plans to have targeted capacity of one lakh small cars per annum. The car will compete with Maruti Swift, Hyundai i10, Fiat Grande Punto, Ford Figo, General Motors Aveo UV-A, Tata Motors’ Indica and other yet-to-be-launched premium hatchbacks. HSCI may also introduce a diesel version of the car later. The company currently sells 52,000 units in India annually, and expects the new car to be a volume generator and help it double the number
The same car will also be made in Thailand where it is expected to be developed & sold under the Thai government’s Eco-Car project, which enjoys many tax concessions. However any such eco-variant is ruled out for the Indian market for the time being.

Mr. H. W. Park, the newly appointed managing director of HMIL said, "Our Korean parent is now working on the new car. It will be smaller than Santro and priced lower than Santro. It will be totally cutting edge technology, well designed car for the Indian customer." He declined to comment further on the launch time and price, but said it would take at least 24 months to launch the car in India.
The main aim of launching one more car is to capture the growing customer preference for small cars. Mr. Arvind Saxena, senior VP - marketing, Hyundai Motor India Ltd said, "As we go forward we would need additional volumes in that space which constitutes 78% of overall passenger car market, the new small car will fit into that space. This low cost model will not compete with Tata Nano”, he said.
